Los artistas no figurativos y
especialmente en este caso en donde el rigor geométrico predomina, no
tratan de representar la realidad tal cual estamos acostumbrados a
percibirla sino de crear una nueva realidad, valíendose del simbolismo
de los colores, de los espacios, de las superficies, de las líneas y de
una lectura simple. Se trata de un lenguaje visual puro, libre de toda
anécdota. Silvia Chami se encuentra en este camino, interminable en la
búsqueda de su lenguaje visual propio de querer plasmar a través de las
formas y el color los distintos estados de una nueva realidad, su propia
realidad, la que ya empieza a distinguirse. La recta, la curva, y una
restringida gama de color son elementos básicos de una combinación
formal en algunos de sus trabajos; en otros el color puro y cierto
dinamismo de las formas provoca una reaccion más dinamica en quien los
contemple.

figurative artists and particularly in this case where geometrical
sternness prevails, they dont try to represent reality as we are used to
perceive, but they create a new reality, helping themselves with the
symbolism of colours, spaces, surfaces and lines of a simple reading. It
is all about a pure visual language free of anecdotes. Silvia Chami
finds herself along this way, a neverending search of her own visual
language of wanting to mold through shapes and colour the different
conditions of a new reality, her own reality, which is already starting
to show. The line,the curve and a restrained palette of colours are
basic elements in a formal combination in some of her works, in others
the pure colour and a certain dynamism of the shapes provoke a more
dynamic reaction to those who contemplate it.

Desde tiempos muy remotos, la
sensibilidad visual se encaminó por distintos senderos. En el
paleolítico predomina el arte figurativo tal como puede apreciarse en
Altamira o Lascaux. En el neolítico el predominio pasa por el arte
abstracto, geométrico. He equiparado estas sensibilidades en lo musical
con la ópera (arte figurativo ) y las sinfonías o cuartetos (arte
abstracto). Verdi es genio de la ópera. Beethoven de las sinfonias y
cuartetos, lo que no impide que el mismo artista transite ambos caminos.
Silvia Chami es decididamente geometrizante y abstracta.
Tanto en sus tintas como en sus acrílicos sobre tela su creatividad se
identifica con complejos lineales y de planos que proponen perspectivas
múltiples y hasta me atrevo a decir contrapuestas. Siempre he sostenido
que los alumnos tienen a los maestros que se merecen y Silvia Chami no
es excepción. Por algo dio con unode los mayores artistas abstractos de
nuestro tiempo, Eduardo Mac Entyre. Como todo gran maestro Eduardo guía
a su discípulo por el camino que le pertenece, en tanto tiene o tenga su
propia personalidad. Tal es el caso de Silvia Chami una personalidad
definida, clara y que se remite a la autoridad de sus propias
convicciones. Talento y carácter son polos necesarios de todo arte que
merezca el nombre de tal. Silvia Chami los tiene, unidos a un gusto
refinado que se manifiesta en la delicadeza de sus combinaciones
coloristicas, una delicadeza que no le resta fuerza a la fuerza de sus
pinturas. Con dominio del espacio y de la composición estamos en
presencia de obras perdurables, esto es, de jerarquía clásica.

Since ancient times, visual sensibility has taken different paths. In
the paleolitic era figurative art has prevailed as can be appreciated in
Altamira or Lascaux. In the neolitic era the predominance passes through
abstract and geometric art. I have compared these sensibilities,
regarding music with opera (figurative art) and the symphonies and
quartets (abstract art). Verdi is the genius in opera, Beethoven is the
genius in symphonies and quartets (abstract art) which does not prevent
that the same artist can walk along both paths. Silvia Chami is
decidedly geometrical and abstract. In her India ink printings as well
as in her acrylic on canvas, her creativity identifies itself to complex
lineals and planes which propose, I dare say, multiple perspectives and
even opposed ones. I have always sustained that students have the
teachers they deserve and Silvia Chami is no exception. It is not a mere
coincidence that she has come across one of the greatest abstract
artists of our time, Eduardo Mac Entyre. As every wellknown teacher
Eduardo guides his pupils along his road ,provided it includes their own
personality. Such is the case of Silvia Chami, a defined personality,
clear and always referring to the authority of her own convictions.
Talent and character are necessary poles for every kind of art. Silvia
Chami has them, linked to a refined taste showed in the sensitiveness of
her combination with the colours, a sensitiveness which does not take
away strength to the strength of her paintings. With control of space
and composition we are in the presence of everlasting works, meaning
classic hierarchy.

Entendido como una unidad argumental independiente, dentro del siempre
rico y cambiante panorama narrativo de las artes visuales geométricas,
que están sutilmente entrelazadas por una concepción interzonal, la
presencia de alguien como Silvia Chami con la sensibilidad, la
inteligencia y el vuelo creador que caracterizan a sus telas sorprende y
hechiza a la vez. Taumaturga (Persona admirable en sus obras y que
realiza hechos prodigiosos) infrecuente de sus propias sensaciones y
sentimientos, la artista entreteje la muy fina malla de su existencia
personal con la profunda existencia de la razón, y de esta bien tramada
urdimbre surgen sus obras, afirmación de un temperamento que es al vez
único y múltiple.

Understood
as an independent argumental unity, and within the always rich and
changing narrative panorama of the geometrial visual arts, which are
subtly interwoven by an interzonal conception, the presence of someone
like Silvia Chami, with the sensitiveness, inteligence and the
creativity which distinguish her paintings, surprise and charm at the
same time. THAUMATURGE (a person who is admired by her works and who
performs wonderful things) infrequent of her own feelings and
sensations, the artist interweaves the very fine network of her personal
existence, with the deep existence of reason, and from this scheme arise
her works, an affirmation of a temperament which is at the same time
unique and multiple.
